Formed in 2008, WAXPANEL took 3 years to get their EP down on tape. The band has been rolling out EPs and singles ever since.
WAXPANEL put out “Believe” in mid-2014 and the second single “Dying Inside” came eight months later. “Bridge to Nowhere” was on their previous EP, Absolution, which can be found on its bandcamp page. The three artists are creating new songs for another EP release, hopefully in mid-2016.
Frontman Micah Lindner, along with bass player Chris Fletcher and drummer Steve Thundersticks, aka Steven Boldway show their vast repertoire and musical skills in these three tracks.
I want to say up front that this band is Christian, for any readers who are unaware or might be turned off by that thought. But if you would give a listen to the tracks, they might change your mind.
The pop and grunge-rock elements that WAXPANEL exhibits is similar to the style of P.O.D., although the band thinks they sound more like Nirvana, The Smashing Pumpkins and the Foo Fighters.
Great guitar riffs, an even more superb vocal range and the present – yet not overbearing- drum kit keeps these tracks moving. The lyrics are subtle and simple, but WAXPANEL drives home a point in each song.
I listened to “Believe” and “Dying Inside” at least five or six times each before I even sat down to write about them and another eight or nine during. I honestly can’t say enough about how much I enjoyed listening to WAXPANEL’s work.
“Believe” is almost a 3 Doors Down meets Chevelle song. The distorted vocals and faded squeal of the guitar give it a great “Garage-band rock” feel without sacrificing the overall qualify of the song.
“Dying Inside” touches more on the side of Breaking Benjamin meets P.O.D. The thunderous harmonies are taken almost straight from P.O.D.’s “Boom” while the Lindner’s deep vocals are reminiscent of Breaking Benjamin’s “Until the End” or “Anthem of the Angels.”
I love rock music and I don’t mind if it is Christian, atheist, agnostic, Buddhist, Muslim, Jewish or Native American. These three men have dedicated their lives to these tracks and want to tell their story.
As of the publication of this article, I have not gone back to listen to the first EP. But I assure you that I will. And I’ll be keeping my eye on WAXPANEL to see when any new tracks come out or when they finally get to tour outside of Texas.
