Mission: Impossible-Rogue Nation (Preview)

Thus far, 2015 has been the year for box office franchises with Avengers: Age of Ultron, Jurassic World, Mad Max: Fury Road, Furious 7, and Terminator Genisys dominating. Therefore, it’s appropriate to continue this year’s tradition with the much-anticipated release of the fifth installment in the Mission: Impossible franchise, Rogue Nation. Tom Cruise returns as IMF agent Ethan Hunt along with Agent Brandt (Jeremy Renner), Benji (Simon Pegg), and Luther (Ving Rhames).

The latest installment in the action series has Ethan and his team on the run (after the IMF is dissolved), setting their sites on extinguishing the Syndicate (a rogue organization similar to the IMF). Rogue Nation looks to accomplish what its’ predecessor (Ghost Protocol) did by becoming the highest-grossing Mission: Impossible (and Tom Cruise) film to date.

MI5-12282 SN02.tifReal stunts have been a staple of the franchise, including the treacherous scene from Ghost Protocol where Tom Cruise suspends off the tallest building in the world, the Burj Khalifa. Cruise achieves the impossible again by grasping onto an A400M Atlas military transport aircraft as it takes off. Paramount recently released the behind the scenes footage of Cruise preparing for the scene stating he not only did one, but eight takes!

With this dedication from Paramount and Cruise it is hard to imagine Rogue Nation will be a box office blunder. We will have to wait until the end of July to see whether Cruise’s devotion will pay off. If I had to wager, I’d say this will surpass the previous film in the franchise and become Cruise’s best to date.

Release Date: July 31
