Avengers: Age of Ultron

The highly successful Avengers series, from Marvel and Walt Disney, released one of the most anticipated movie sequels in 2015, Avengers: Age of Ultron. After the original was an incredible success, both commercially and critically, expectations were sky high for this superhero-filled, action-packed follow up.

If you went into this movie expecting lots of fighting and action, funny and quotable lines, and seeing your favorite comic book characters on the big screen, then this might have been the most enjoyable movie of the year for you.Avengers: Age of Ultron follows the formula of the first movie to a tee, which is both a good and bad strategy. Just like its predecessor’s foot, the movie is pure entertainment. The fightsare over the top and badass, such as when Thor and Captain America team up and worktogether using Thor’s hammer to hit Captain America’s shield into a swarm of attacking robots.

The chemistry between the actors themselves and the characters they play really shines through. An example of this is a running gag throughout the movie when all the Avengers tease Captain America about his sensitivity towards profanity. The cast also does a realistic job portraying the tensions that can arise when a bunch of strong and powerful people try to work together.

There are a few areas where the movie falls flat however. The forced romance between Bruce Banner and Black Widow is awkward and unnecessary. While James Spader’s voicing for Ultron was incredible, the way Ultron was written felt cheesy at times. At almost two and a half hours, there are parts that drag on or feel like they don’t need to be in the movie. There are also a few minor plot holes here and there, but nothing that detracts from the movie in a major way.

Avengers: Age of Ultron is a prototypical blockbuster film and it executes that role to perfection. It sucks you in with explosions and crazy battles, makes you laugh with some fun quips, and will make you forget about reality the entire time you are in the movie theater. If you’re looking simply for an exciting and enjoyable theater experience, then I highly recommend this movie.

Score: 4/5
